I’m sure many Sonos users never discovered these functions, because it’s entirely unintuitive to expose them by tapping a song you’re not even listening to. Buttons for repeating the current track, toggling shuffle mode, and toggling crossfade mode are also located in this overlay. On the current apps, tapping the name of the next track in your queue reveals an overlay that displays the minutes the current track has played and how many minutes remain. Several important functions that were essentially hidden in the old app are now much easier to find-once you know where to look, that is. The currently available Sonos app overwhelms the user with information and choices. (A small transport-control bar appears at the bottom of that screen.) With the Android version running on the smaller screen of a smartphone (as shown above), you can slide the now-playing screen down to reveal the Sonos menu. On the iPad, the biggest change involves the Sonos menu (formerly labeled the Music menu) and the Player window (formerly labeled Playing Now) they’re now displayed side by side, so that you no longer need to switch between the two. I installed the beta software on an HTC One smartphone running Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), as well as an iPod touch and an iPad 2 (both running iOS 7.1). The new versions also make much better use of the available screen real estate. The basic play, pause, skip functions haven’t changed much other elements are now easier to find and use. Other changes revolve around the graphical user interface, but you needn’t worry about relearning how to control your system. With the new unified search, you get consolidated results from your own library and all the services you use. If you want to query a music service you subscribe to-Pandora, Slacker, Spotify, and so on-you must switch to each of those services individually. With the current controller software, searching for a track, artist, or album examines only your own library. The single biggest change is to the app’s search function. Dragging down from the top reveals the Sonos menu (right), leaving a small transport control at the bottom. Related details like album, artist and track number are offered as well. These two screens show the Android software running on an HTC One smartphone: The now-playing screen (left) makes much better use of the phone’s display. Users can also choose a music source and see the currently playing song. As a result, you’ll be able to use various music sources, along with multi-room functionality that lets you listen to whatever audio files you want in each room of your house.ĭifferent songs or the same tune can be streamed in each room using your smartphone, tablet or computer. To use Sonos controller, you’ll need a Sonos player plugged into power and connected to your router via an Ethernet cable. The application makes it possible to connect the system to your PC and from there, manage all your music and playlists. Sonos is an advanced HiFi wireless speakers and audio components sytem, that let you play different audio files in each room, using a dedicated wireless network. It lets you control and manage playlists for each room, with the possibility to change the volume and switch between audio files in a simple manner. If you own the Sonos system, Sonos Controller is a must have tool, created specifically for the system. Sonos Controller: A comprehensive application that offers remote control over music players
